Tour Overview
Package tours depart from Surabaya or Malang at midnight for two days and one night. The goal is to enjoy the sunrise views and crater of Mount Bromo and the blue fire and crater of Mount Ijen and finish at Ketapang Harbor in Banyuwangi.

A. Mount Bromo

Bromo is an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia, located in the Tengger Mountains. It is not the highest summit in the massif, standing at 2,329 meters (7,641 feet), but it is the most well-known. The area is one of East Java’s most famous tourist sites, and the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Mount Bromo has erupted several times, the most recent in 2010.
What you have to prepare:
- Dress warmly as temperatures can be cold.
- Bring a mask to protect against volcanic ash and sand dust.
- Bring water during trekking to Bromo crater.
- Respect the local Tenggerese people and their customs.
B. Mount Ijen
Ijen crater, Blue fire, Sulfur mining exploration, Sunrise Viewpoint, Coffee plantation
The Ijen volcano complex is notable for its blue fire, acidic crater lake, and laborious sulfur mining. Located west of Gunung Merapi, it has a turquoise-colored acidic crater lake one kilometer wide. Workers earn about US$13 per day and must transport sulfur chunks three kilometers to the nearby Paltuding Valley to be compensated.
What you have to prepare:
- Dress warmly as temperatures can be cold.
- Bring a flashlight/headlamp for the dark 3 km trek.
- Bring water during trekking.
- Be ready to breathe in strong sulfur fumes (gas mask provided).
- Don't bring jewelry (gold, silver, copper) because it will be oxidized.
